Dr. Valentino Grant
Founding Director
Dr. Valentino Grant is a Companion Animal Veterinarian and owner/operator of the Caves Village Veterinary Hospital in Nassau, the Bahamas.
He was born in 1965 in the hamlet of Trinity, Port Maria to Leabert Grant (the first 4H organizer for the Parish of St. Mary) and Emily Grant, née Carty (the first Nurse Practitioner for the Parish of St. Mary). He and his three siblings all attended St. Cyprian’s Prep. After graduating from St. Cyp’s in 1976, Val (as he is affectionately called by most people), attended St. Mary High (from 1st to 5th form) and then went on to Wolmer’s Boys School where he completed 6th form in 1983.
He then went on to the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry and Biochemistry, graduating in 1987. Val’s dream was to be a veterinarian and so he worked at the Jamaica Livestock Assn. (JLA) for a year, gaining vital experience there before attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University in Alabama, where he obtained a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1992.
Upon graduating from Tuskegee, he wanted to experience new countries and cultures, which took him on a journey that eventually landed him a position on the island of Grand Bahama in the Bahamas. He practiced there for many years before moving in 2005 to the capital city of Nassau on New Providence Island. Val enjoys working not only with animals but with their human companions too, as they are half the fun of practice!
He is a member of the board of Directors of the Bahamas Humane Society and two US-based companies. He is also a proud founding member of the St. Cyprian’s Development Foundation. Val has a 22 year old son by the name of Benjamin and his hobbies include biking and fishing!
