The Back Story
From PAST to PRESENT
The SCDF is a non-profit incorporated in the United States in 2020. It was born out of a need to mobilize resources and strategic partnerships to make St. Cyprian’s into a world-class institution and help drive development in Highgate, St. Mary, and northeastern Jamaica. With a critical mass of our alumni and potential corporate donors located in North America, it only spelled sense to establish an SCDF that is closer to them and speaks the same legal, financial and tax language, including tax-deductible donations. Efforts continue to establish a network of partners, raise funds and build capacity for project management and oversight in Jamaica.
We are committed to ensuring that any value added to St. Cyp’s will stimulate development in surrounding communities. We will know we have succeeded when St. Cyprian’s becomes the school of choice in the region, and ultimately Highgate and its environs attract people to live and raise their families to the region because of the enhanced education and amenities available at St. Cyp’s. The Plan
What ensued was many nights of intense discussions and planning by our Steering Committee, which continue to this day. We started by incorporating the St. Cyprian’s Preparatory School Alumni Association (SCPSAA) in Jamaica as a way to gather alumni under one umbrella to reconnect and organize to help the School. However, as we continued our efforts to establish a network of partners, raise funds and build capacity for project management and oversight in Jamaica, we thought it would also help to establish a presence in North America to leverage the support of alumni and potential corporate partners there as well. And so, notwithstanding the pandemic, the St. Cyprian’s Development Foundation (SCDF) was born in 2020.

Join us
Our journey thus far has been no different from any other. There have been long stretches of smooth road, but there have also been many a bump in the road, twists and unexpected turns, and some steep learning curves. Through it all, our team consolidated into a strong core, and we are now looking further afield to more willing hearts and hands to join us on this mission of love, as there is truly a magical gift in the energy of giving.
