Frequently Asked Questions

The St. Cyprians Foundation of Jamaica also known as the SCDF is a 501c3 (nonprofit) organization incorporated in the United States of America to promote the development of the St. Cyprian’s Preparatory School in Highgate, Jamaica and thereby the wider community.

Most of our alumni seemed to have settled in North America, including three members of the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee of the St. Cyprians Preparatory (Jamaica) Alumni Association determined it would be best to form a branch of the Association that would be closer to most of its alumni. Critically, it would be devoted primarily to raising funds and building corporate relationships in North America, since a US-based entity also makes it easier to attract hard-currency donations and enables donors to benefit from tax incentives for corporate and private giving.

The St. Cyprians Preparatory School (Jamaica) Alumni Association was incorporated in Jamaica. Its primary purpose is to serve as the umbrella organization that convenes St. Cyprian’s Alumni in initiatives to serve the school, rekindle old friendships, build new relationships, raise funds and assist the school in recovering and surpassing its former glory.

That would be an emphatic “yes!” Both organizations are devoted to restoring St. Cyprian’s to its stature as a top-tier preparatory school. The Foundation and the Association will both work together to collect funds and implement projects. One way of looking at it is to picture the Foundation as the fundraiser and corporate arm and the Association as fundraiser and convener.

Picture the SCPSAA as that outgoing friend we all have who is like a people magnet and keeps your group of friends together. They are in touch with everybody and always up for planning events like BBQs, family fun days, gala balls, trips, and fun stuff like that to get everyone to come together and have a good time, but also to raise funds and help the School in practical ways.

At this point, the SCDF does not operate with a membership. It is a corporate entity devoted to raising funds and building corporate relationships to sustain the development of St. Cyprian’s and the St. Cyprian’s community.

Absolutely! We will be offering membership to all past, present and future students of SCPS with required ANNUAL dues of only USD ($30).

We’re glad you asked! Each entity will have an online presence through our website and popular social media platforms. You will be able to track, post, contribute and ask questions, so please watch this space for more information.

Yes and no. Currently, there are four directors of the SCDF and six directors of the SCSPAA. Although they are different entities, they are pursuing a common goal. The directors will always be in contact with each other to ensure that funds are raised and projects implemented. While the SCDF is a US-based legal entity and accountable to US authorities, donors and potential donors, the Foundation will also report to SCPSAA annually.

We wanted a presence close to a strong donor base and key resources we could leverage to drive our efforts in Jamaica. We have as many, if not more, alumni in North America than we do in Jamaica, so we thought: “Why not leverage that presence and experience to raise the funds and forge relationships where we are living and working to help drive our activities at our base in Jamaica. The result is a Jamaican-based Alumni Association closer to the School and the community that is also operating in synergy with the US-based Foundation.

We have a master development plan broken down into modules. For each year, the SCDF will draft an annual development plan with the modules we’ll be focusing on for that year. Funding will be raised to implement the module and executed with the help of the Alumni Association and the rest of the School Family.

All projects to be implemented must be approved by the School Board in advance and submitted to the Anglican Diocese for a no-objection. The Annual Development Plans will therefore be submitted to them for approval and tweaked as needed before implementation can begin.
